Qualified Technology Provider

Ener-t International is a qualified technology provider based on our vast experience spanning decades in the design, development, construction, operation, maintenance and improvement of the SEGS solar thermal power plants since the establishmebt of the SEGS projects located in California.

Those nine parabolic trough power plants have set the current technology standard and have a total capacity of 354 MW generating electricity continuously since 1984 to supply reliable power to more than 200,000 homes.

As such, our dedign and engineeringwork is based on our experience as technology provider with intimate understanding of the capabilities of parabolic trough technology and overall solar thermal system engineering. Our technology background is reflected in our process design: we optimize system performance reflecting a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of the various plant subsystems – solar field, HTF system, TES, power block and ancillary systems - and how these subsystems can be successfully integrated to maximize the net annual electricity generation of the projects.

Ener-t Solar Technologies

General Description of the System
The Solar thermal plant can be broken down into five interlinked principal subsystems:

  • The Solar Collector Field
  • The Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) system
  • The Power Block
  • The Water Systems
  • The Thermal Energy Storage (TES) system - optional
  • Ancillary Systems

General Process Schematic
The TES system is not required for the proper operation of the Plant, but is intended as an auxiliary system to improve plant utilization, manageability and generation capacity. Taken together, these benefits significantly improve the project's return on investment. These systems are identified in the following general process schematic.General Process Schematic

The Solar Field
The elemental unit of the solar field is the parabolic trough solar collector module.

Parabolic Trough Technology

Main elements of the solar collector assembly:

To this day parabolic trough is the only commercially proven solar thermal concentrating technology that is bankable. With Ener-t design and technology, it is straightforward to implement and has demonstrated efficient, stable and reliable operation for decades. These systems can also be combined with state of the art thermal energy storage systems and auxiliary fuel backup for round the clock operation. Ener-t international most advanced design allows for over 19% solar to electric efficiency in many locations worldwide.

Layout of Solar collectors in Plant:

Parabolic troughs use only direct normal solar radiation, which means they have to be pointed at the sun in order to focus concentrated solar energy on the absorber tube, or HCE (heat collection element), which runs along the focal point of the trough. The diagram to the left shows the difference between the different kinds of solar radiation.

Solar Electric Systems

With our extensive experience and knowhow in all aspects of parabolic trough technology, Ener-t aims to supply a complete EPC package that begins from the early stages of the feasibility study all the way through project engineering, procurement, and construction management and onto project commissioning and operation.
Ener-t also offers professional EPC services on a Lump Sum Turnkey (LSTK) basis together with its partners.

Some of the services included in our EPC package are:

  • Feasibility studies
  • Conceptual and basic engineering for complete thermal solar plants
  • Design optimization and detailed electricity production analysis using our advanced modeling techniquesKey plant components selection
  • CAPEX and OPEX estimatesTechnical support for pre-financial closing due-diligence.
  • Management and supervision of detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning
  • Preparation and supervision of operation and maintenance (O & M)

Integrated Hybrid Solar Fuel

Ener-T has developed a unique Patented Technology for generating renewable power with 24/7 availability, fast response to grid requirements, full manageability, and high reliability as described herein. The new technology is based on a breakthrough in the integration of solar thermal energy, fossil energy and thermal energy storage system. In the new technology, named IHSF (Integrated Hybrid Solar – Fuel), thermal energy from both solar and fuel based sources (including coal and biomass) is combined in a highly efficient and flexible manner to create a continuous and stable stream of hot fluid to generate power. Thermal Energy Storage (TES) is also used as an integral part of the IHSF process and together with the high efficiency solar turbine; high quality electricity is generated to match grid requirements, 24/7 all year around. The IHSF power plant can serve as base load plants and is the only solar energy system that can practically do so.

  • An integration of proven, bankable technologies
  • Leverages the auxiliary fuel using solar thermal energy to increase the effective thermal efficiency
  • Flexible configuration to reflect fuel type, availability and dispatch targets
  • Fully load manageable
  • Designed as a base-load capable system
  • Provide high quality power with characteristics that were until now available only in conventional power stations.
